What does a dermatologist treat?
A dermatologist diagnoses and treats conditions of the skin, hair, and nails. At Fayette Area Dermatology, our providers treat everything from acne, eczema, and psoriasis to skin cancer, hair loss, warts, and cysts, and we also offer cosmetic treatments such as Botox® and laser treatment.
Where are your dermatology offices located?
Fayette Area Dermatology has three Georgia offices: 450 Lanier Avenue West in Fayetteville, 731 South 8th Street in Griffin, and 16125 Barnesville Street in Zebulon. Patients can choose the office that is most convenient for them. Directions and details for each office are available on our contact page.
What are your office hours?
Our Fayetteville office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Our Griffin office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Our Zebulon office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. All three offices are closed on weekends.
Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist?
Many patients can schedule directly with Fayette Area Dermatology without a referral. However, some insurance plans, including certain HMO plans, require a referral from your primary care provider before a specialist visit. We recommend checking with your insurance company before your appointment. You can learn more on our insurance page.
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes. Fayette Area Dermatology welcomes new patients at our Fayetteville, Griffin, and Zebulon offices. Call (770) 460-8988 - Fayetteville Office , (770) 460-8988 - Griffin Office or (770) 460-8988 - Zebulon Office or visit our appointments page to book online at the location nearest you. You can also review our new patient information to prepare for your first visit.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a list of your current medications and allergies, and any relevant medical records. Completing your patient forms ahead of time helps shorten your check-in. If you have a specific spot or rash of concern, try to avoid covering it with makeup on the day of your visit.
What insurance plans do you accept?
Fayette Area Dermatology accepts most major insurance plans. Because coverage varies from plan to plan, it is the patient’s responsibility to confirm whether our providers are in-network. Visit our insurance page for the information you need when calling your insurance provider.
How often should I get a skin cancer screening?
Most adults benefit from a yearly full-body skin exam, and patients with a personal or family history of skin cancer, many moles, fair skin, or a history of sunburns may need more frequent checks. Our providers can recommend a screening schedule based on your risk. Learn more about skin cancer diagnosis and treatment.
What warning signs of skin cancer should I watch for?
See a dermatologist if you notice a mole that changes in size, shape, or color, a mole with irregular borders, a sore that bleeds or won’t heal, a waxy or pearly bump, a scaly or crusted patch, or any new growth that looks different from your other spots. Early detection makes skin cancer much easier to treat.
What is Mohs surgery?
Mohs surgery is a precise technique for removing skin cancer one thin layer at a time. Each layer is examined under a microscope during the procedure until no cancer cells remain, which helps preserve as much healthy skin as possible. It is often recommended for cancers on the face, ears, scalp, and hands. Learn more about Mohs surgery.
Do you offer treatment for skin cancer other than surgery?
Yes. Depending on the type, size, and location of the cancer, treatment may include excisional surgery, cryotherapy, electrodesiccation, Mohs surgery, or Superficial Radiation Therapy (SRT), a non-surgical option for certain basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. Your provider will explain which options fit your diagnosis.
Can a dermatologist help with adult acne?
Absolutely. Acne can affect people well into adulthood. Our providers create personalized treatment plans that may include prescription topical medications, oral medications, and in-office procedures to clear breakouts and reduce scarring. Visit our acne treatment page to learn more.
Do you treat chronic skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea?
Yes. Our team provides long-term management for chronic conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea. Treatment plans may include prescription creams, oral or injectable medications, light-based therapies, and skincare guidance to control flare-ups.
When should I see a dermatologist for a rash?
Make an appointment if a rash spreads quickly, lasts more than a few days, is painful or blistering, keeps coming back, or comes with fever or other symptoms. Our providers identify the cause of the rash and recommend effective relief. Learn more about rash treatment.
What can be done about hair loss?
Hair loss can be caused by genetics, hormonal changes, stress, autoimmune conditions, scalp disorders, or nutritional deficiencies. A dermatologist can determine the cause and recommend treatment that may help slow shedding and encourage regrowth. Visit our hair loss page for more information.
Do you offer cosmetic dermatology treatments?
Yes. In addition to medical dermatology, Fayette Area Dermatology offers cosmetic treatments such as Botox® Cosmetic to soften wrinkles and laser treatment to improve skin tone, texture, and other cosmetic concerns.
Can you remove warts and cysts?
Yes. Our providers safely treat warts with options such as cryotherapy and topical treatments, and we diagnose and remove cysts in the office. Removing these growths professionally lowers the risk of infection, scarring, and recurrence compared to at-home removal.
